Lloyds TSB Leap Forward

Lloyds TSB Leap Forward

The company has never lost sight of its origins and continues to deliver courses and projects for boys and girls in the age range 11-19. We shall always provide the excitement and the challenge of experiential visits.  We meet with School Heads, the Youth Service and with other Community Organisations in the Normanton area. From this ongoing consultation and from statistics on such issues as crime, vehicle crime and long term unemployment it has become clear that much more needs to be done (and recruits are already in place!)

Jobs Education and Training (known as “JET”) was formed in 2002 to address underachievement amongst Pakistani and Bangladeshi children at secondary school level. Subsequently, in pursuit of their stated Core Purpose “to reduce deprivation and to improve economic prosperity throughout the community”, JET expanded their services into capacity building, a massive range of courses, further educational programmes and experiential visits. Coincidentally the Company started to refurbish a derelict site to the rear of the existing building.

‘Leap Further Forward’ will provide supplementary learning and a series of activities to do with group behaviour, team building and personal improvement. Families, Mentors and Role Models will be an integral part of the process. The learning, targeted at the 14-16 age range, will be both individual and collective. In the words of a former Leap Forward service user, Kafeel Hanif:-

“I never liked school. My parents had no academic qualifications and in spite of their best efforts I was a continual no-show. Learning was meaningless…… until I arrived at JET.”

JET are more than excited by this three year funding programme and would like to thank all at Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales for their most generous support.
