The Access to Volunteering
The Access to Volunteering project offers local people the opportunity to get involved in volunteering within their community. The project will enable local people to undertake volunteering opportunities within the local voluntary community organisations.
Recent research has confirmed that a number of Normanton residents who are genuinely seeking work have been unemployed for a number of years and therefore understandably lack confidence. For these clients, volunteering has been recognised as an ideal activity to help improve self-confidence and raise self-esteem. Volunteering of this type enables individuals to experience work in a non threatening environment and in the knowledge that they are making a positive contribution to society.
The main aim of this programme is to ensure that Volunteers have a wide selection of volunteering activities in which to participate. These opportunities include (but are not necessarily restricted to):
• Administration
• Child care
• Care Work (with elderly people)
• Catering
• Community work
• Information Technology
• Retail and Customer Service
• Youth Work
We have been delighted with the positive response to this programme and we shall continue to track beneficiaries progress on conclusion of the work (not that it really ever ends!).
