Reaching Derby

07 December 2008

Community Action Derby and Jobs Education & Training are cooperative partners in the context of the Change Up Pilot Grants programme “Improving Reach 2006 –2008” sponsored by Capacity Builders. This innovative project will build on our combined track record of reaching and supporting emerging and isolated communities across the wards in Derby City.

The two main objectives are:

•        To build the capacity of the voluntary and community infrastructure in Derby and Derbyshire for the benefit of voluntary and community organisations, groups and initiatives.

•    To ensure that the needs of BME front line organisations and community organisations in   general reflect the cultural diversity of the county and are accounted for within the Change Initiative and the implementation of the Consortium Strategy.

The overarching aim is to ensure that new organisations are located, supported, developed, enhanced, and made more sustainable. After local groups have been targeted and enrolled, discussions will be held to identify individual organisational needs.

Those needs will be diverse but are expected to include governance, management, fundraising, procurement, training, human resource activities and business planning.

Only last year JET concluded a substantial LSC co-funded capacity building project. JET’s recommendations (in the full report) included a strong proposal that the existing work needed to be continued and more work needed to be done.

In support of our recommendations we are delighted to have that opportunity with such an experienced partner as Community Action Derby.
