The Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund has handsomely sponsored this project which is to deliver a series of accredited and non accredited courses which will target learners from deprived communities. The programme lasts from January to December 2007 and it is attracting hard to reach individuals to participate in learning.

JET’s all inclusive approach caters for beneficiaries from a number of groups including BME women, families, young people, the elderly, the unemployed, the disabled, emerging and established community organisations, employees and volunteers. After consultation with our Funding Sponsor, with stakeholders and with service users, the following course themes have been adopted.

Certain bite sizes courses are within the project. They range from Healthy Eating to Food and Hygiene, from Embroidery to Emergency. First Aid, from Stress Management to Yoga.

Evaluations are conducted after every training session. Feedback is always diagnosed in detail. If changes need to be made to the content of the programme they will be implemented. Ultimately we want to engage people who have never experienced formal learning.

We want to encourage participants to embrace the learning experience, improve their self confidence, build their own self-esteem and raise their aspirations. Once that happens learning will be at the very heart of the community which we serve!
