Learning For All

It was the support from the Learning Development Consortium’s Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities Fund (NLDC) which enabled us to set up our IT Suite. That in turn helped us to succeed in our bid to host a Learndirect Centre in the heart of Normanton.

Additional funding has been received to provide progression based training to encourage access to learning. Certain specific barriers to learning were recognised:

•    Cultural and experiential.

•    Lack of confidence and self esteem for those who have little or no experience of the educational system and who have found the system lacking in support and encouragement.

•    Because of these and language barriers progression to SfL qualifications through this project is critical to the economic prosperity of the Community.

The ‘Learning for All’ project has the following objectives:

•    To break down the identified barriers.

•    To use a pool of well trained tutors from the Community who will   deliver to the Community.

•    To offer progression steps to Learning from ‘Bite size’ to fall level   III OCN accreditation.

•    To work with Learners not only to develop the progression steps   to Learning but to build for future and to enhance personal ambition.

This project is a vital part of JET’s activities and falls absolutely within the core strategy to deliver access to Jobs, Education and Training.
