A £2000 grant from the GOEM’s
A £2000 grant from the GOEM’s Champions Fund and support from the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) funds the first of three conferences aimed at establishing ways to deal with underachievement amongst Pakistani and Bangladeshi children.
Conferences unite the community
These conferences unite the community and lead to the challenge of “What now?” and the formation of the new company, Jobs, Education and Training (known as ‘JET’).

LSC offers £25,000 for refurbishment
LSC offers £25,000 for refurbishment provided JET find suitable premises. An ex-plumbers merchants on Normanton Road is chosen as it is ideal for future growth and is in the heart of the community.
An architect and surveyor prepare a feasibility study for the refurbishment. They quote £250,000.

Work on the building begins
Work on the building begins. It is gutted by a small group of local people over a three month period.
Livelihood
CVS, JET and Connexions secure funding for Livelihood, a project set up in order to help service users into employment.
A joint bid
A joint bid with Derbyshire Education and Business Partnership leads to the appointment of a project worker and a mentoring project for Pakistani and Bangladeshi children.

JET secure £7,500 of SRB funding
JET secure £7,500 of SRB funding for the building which enables them to refurbish the ground and first floors. By summer the building is almost ready.
Rolls Royce Challenge Day
165 trainees from Rolls Royce and 200 local volunteers help transform the land at the back of JET’s premises into a colourful and welcoming venue where visitors can be received and events can be held.

Learning & Development Consortium contract
A Learning & Development Consortium contract worth £35,000 enables the opening of JET’s IT suite and the delivery of a series of IT programmes to the community.
Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership
Funding is secured from the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership (DDEP) for the second stage of refurbishment (the second floor).
LSC contract for £253,000
An LSC contract for £253,000 for an external Capacity Building Project kick-starts the organisation and allows for the employment of more staff.

2005
Two-year LSC contract
JET are awarded a two-year LSC contract, worth £70,000, for an internal capacity building project.
Funding of £20,000 is secured from SEEM
Funding of £20,000 is secured from SEEM for a feasibility study, an extensive community consultation exercise throughout Normanton and a preliminary environmental impact study for the proposed building extension.
The Leap Forward
The Leap Forward programme begins (through the Connexions contract). This offers a series of classes and training sessions to Year 10 BME pupils.
Aimhigher
The Aimhigher project, which helps young Muslim girls into the Allied health professions and higher education, begins.
Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities
Following the receipt of an award from the Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities, JET offers a series of bite-size course for the unemployed and those qualified or below level 2. These include Train the Trainer, First Aid, Mentoring and Coaching and personal development courses. These are carried out in partnership with organisations such as St Johns Ambulance and the University of Derby.
Skills for Life
The government sponsored programme on Skills for Life commences. JET is only 1 of 4 voluntary organisations to be selected as a pathfinding participant.
JET Gala Event & Awards Ceremony
JET holds this inaugural event which recognises achievements amongst community members.

The Access to Volunteering
The Access to Volunteering programme, which places volunteers with suitable organisations, begins in partnership with Livelihood.
Local Initiative Development Fund
Funding from the Local Initiative Development Fund facilitates the projects Lets Encourage, which offers assistance to parents to help them offer greater educational and development support to their children, and Lets Reach Out, which develops a pool of mentors in the community.
SEEM award an additional grant of £20,000
SEEM award an additional grant of £20,000 for the medium-term refurbishment which will include 3 additional training rooms and a conference hall.
Awards for All (Big Lottery Fund) award JET a grant for a range of marketing materials.

The Small Change project
The Small Change project, Lets Connect, arranges a series of visits to enable young BME residents to visit City Institutions.
Learning Development Consortium
JET receive notification from the Learning Development Consortium of the second largest grant award in their history (£134,300) for “Learning in the Heart of the Community”.
Gala Event and Awards Ceremony
JET hold their second Gala Event and Awards Ceremony attended by over 200 people.
CVS confirms receipt of an award
CVS confirms receipt of an award from ‘Change Up’ through Capacity Builders for participation with JET in “Reaching Derby”, an external capacity building programme for community organisations.

JET staff and beneficiaries take part in a three day sponsored trip to European Parliament in Brussels.
Department for Work and Pensions award £25,000
Department for Work and Pensions award £25,000 for “DAF Jobsearch” in Arboretum and Normanton.
Award from Derby Community Foundation
JET receives a significant award from Derby Community Foundation for the delivery of courses such as Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, First Aid, Practical Skills, Equality and Diversity, Personal Finance and Budgeting.
Capacity Builders
Capacity Builders sponsored Partnership Project with CVS (‘Reaching Derby’) comes to an end. Voluntary Organisations with whom JET worked access collective funds in excess of £500,000.
Adeba Zeenat, Learning Co-ordinator
Adeba Zeenat, Learning Co-ordinator, fronts a groundbreaking TV programme entitled “Involving Asian Families in Learning” on ‘Teachers TV’. The film location was Dale Primary School.
PQASSO Level 3.
Confirmation is received that in terms of internal working practices JET operates within the requirements of PQASSO Level 3.
Derby City Council
Derby City Council enters into a collaborative Partnership with JET ‘to address the acute
under-representation of people from the Pakistani Community on the Council’.
Adventure Capital Fund
JET is supported by Adventure Capital Fund with a £15,000 Development Grant to take the Company to Investment Readiness for a significant long term Capital Project to create a multi-purpose Community Centre.

Department of Work & Pension awards £43,325 for”DAF Mentoring”. The Project focuses on offering mentoring support to unemployed residing in the Arboretum, Normanton and Sinfin wards
