Jobs Education and Training (JET)

JET building

Jobs Education and Training is a B.M.E led organisation which initially was formed to try and help young Muslims to achieve in education and to access further training and jobs. JET has grown sustainably, with, with a policy of attracting other key organisations to deliver into the local area and especially within the black and minority ethnic communities.

We work in partnership with Connexions and training organisations etc to provide coaching and mentoring mainly for young Muslims from within the Pakistani Community. In addition the project aims to help the unemployed, women, ethnic minorities and young people in the area to find employment and to access learning. We now run a modern centre in Normanton with training and IT facilities open to the local community.

JET also supports community development and encourages and encourages local residents to address educational, employment and social issues faced within the community.

Our current major activity is a Derbyshire LSC Co-financed project to build capacity into local community organisations through a process of training needs analysis and training. We are working with a large range of organisations including 'new' refugee communities. Gender issues within a number of the communities we work with have become an increasing priority.

Tall Ships Youth Trust

The Tall Ships Youth Trust, incorporating the Sail Training Association, is a registered charity founded in 1956 and dedicated to the personal development of young people aged 16 to 25 through the crewing of Tall Ships. Each voyage of 48 trainees is managed by 6 qualified permanent crew and 12 experienced volunteer crew with professionally qualified teachers and youth workers joining youth voyages - a new and pioneering approach to sail training.

Livelihood Project

Connexions Derbyshire & Nextstep are delivering the Livelihood project, based in Normanton, at the heart of a very diverse community. Livelihood helps local people find jobs, complete application forms, create CV's, signpost them to courses that can lead to jobs, gives advice on benefits and wages, and gives on-going support when starting work.

Job Centre Plus

Job Centre Plus Outreach Team work in the JET Project building in partnership with other organisations on site. Our aim is to offer a jobs match service that is individually tailored to the needs of the residents of Normanton.

As well as helping residents to look for work, we can help to identify suitable training opportunities. We can undertake calculations to determine how much better off residents can be in work. We can also help with claiming tax credits.

Our aim is wherever possible, to help local people into local jobs, so we work with local employers and partners to identify suitable opportunities for residents within their local area.
